Excerpt: Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 February 3, 1959) known professionally as Buddy Holly , was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll . Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash , Holly is described by critic Bruce Elder as “the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll.” His works and innovations inspired and influenced both his contemporaries and later musicians, notably The Beatles , The Rolling Stones , Don McLean , and Bob Dylan , and exerted a profound influence on popular music . Holly was in the first group of inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Holly #13 among “The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time”. Biography Early life Charles Hardin Holley was born in Lubbock , Texas to Lawrence Odell and Ella Pauline (Drake) Holley on Labor Day , 1936. The Holleys were a musical family, and as a boy Holley learned to play piano, guitar, and violin. His singing won him a talent contest at age five. Holly was always called Buddy by his family. In 1949, he made a recording of Hank Snow’s “My Two Timin’ Woman” on a wire recorder “borrowed” by a friend who worked in a music shop, his first known recording. In 1952, he met Bob Montgomery at Hutchinson Junior High School. They shared an interest in music and teamed up as “Buddy and Bob”. Initially influenced by bluegrass music , they sang harmony duets at local clubs and high school talent shows. Hutchinson Junior High School now has a mural honoring him, and Lubbock High School also honors the late musician. Holly sang in the Lubbock High School

Excerpt: Chesney Henry “Chet” Baker, Jr. (December 23, 1929 May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player and singer. Baker established a large following, based in part on his “matinee idol beauty, emotionally remote performances, and well publicized drug habit.” He died in 1988 after falling from a window of Hotel Prins Hendrik (Room 210) at the Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Baker was born and raised in a musical household in Yale, Oklahoma; his father was a professional guitar player. Baker began his musical career singing in a church choir. His father introduced him to brass instruments with a trombone, which was replaced with a trumpet when the trombone proved too large for him. Baker received some musical education at Glendale Junior High School, but left school at age 16 in 1946 to join the United States Army. He was posted to Berlin where he joined the 298th Army band. Leaving the army in 1948, he studied theory and harmony at El Camino College in Los Angeles. He dropped out in his second year, however, re-enlisting in the army in 1950. Baker once again obtained a discharge from the army to pursue a career as a professional musician. Baker became a member of the Sixth Army Band at the Presidio in San Francisco, but was soon spending time in San Francisco jazz clubs such as Bop City and the Black Hawk. Baker’s earliest notable professional gigs were with saxophonist Vido Musso’s band, and also with tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, though he earned much more renown in 1952 when he was chosen by Charlie Parker to play with him for a series of West Coast engagements. In 1952, Baker joined the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, which was an instant phenomenon. Several things made the Mulligan/Baker group special, the most prominent… More:

Additionally, this tour marked the first time that the band performed “Round and Round ” live. The tour also featured a select one or two fans at each show playing a song from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith live on-stage before the concert. Excerpt: Black Sabbath Black Sabbath is the debut eponymous studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath . Released on 13 February 1970 in the United Kingdom, and later on 1 June 1970 in the United States, the album reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart and has been recognised as one of the main albums to be credited with the development of the heavy metal genre. Recording In August 1969 the band, who were then known as Earth, decided to change their name to Black Sabbath, because there was another band also known as Earth, and also as homage to a 1963 classic Mario Bava terror film starring Boris Karloff . Around the same time they recorded and distributed a demo version of their eponymous song. In December 1969 they recorded and released their debut single, “Evil Woman “. In January 1970, the band recorded and mixed the remaining seven songs that would appear on their debut album. According to guitarist Tony Iommi , “We just went in the studio and did it in a day, we played our live set and that was it. We actually thought a whole day was quite a long time, then off we went the next day to play for £20 in Switzerland.” Iommi recalls recording live: “We thought ‘We have two days to do it and one of the days is mixing.’ So we played live. Ozzy was singing at the same time, we just put him in a separate booth and off we went. We never had a second run of most of the stuff.” Music and lyrics Musically and lyrically the album was considered quite “dark” for the time. The first song on the album is based almost entirely on a tritone interval played at slow tempo on the electric guitar. The song’s lyrics concern a

Other guest artists on the song included Billy Joel on piano, Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats on guitar and Clarence Clemons of The E Street Band on saxophone. The song and music video met some controversy since it sent a very strong “anti-school” message. Because of this MTV had refused to play the video. The video featured a school with a dark blue/grey interior with nearly all the students portrayed as zombies (guest-starring in the video was special effects artist Tom Savini who had worked on numerous horror movies ). The name is formed by taking part of “cruel ” and switching it with part of “school ” The song was also featured in the 1986 film One Crazy Summer . Excerpt: Joseph Patrick “Joe” Escalante (born January 30, 1963) is an American musician, record label owner, radio host, film and music video director, and amateur matador, as well as a former television executive and entertainment lawyer. He is most widely known as the bassist for the punk rock band The Vandals, the owner of their record label Kung Fu Records, and the host of Barely Legal Radio on the Los Angeles/Orange County radio station Indie 103.1 FM. Escalante was born in Long Beach, California to a Mexican father and Irish mother and grew up in Rossmoor, California, an unincorporated area of Orange County. As a teenager he learned to play drums and began performing in local garage bands. After graduating from Los Alamitos High School in Orange County, Escalante received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA where he specialized in Old Norse. After doing graduate work at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík, he entered Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and received his Juris Doctor, specializing in anti-trust litigation. In 1980, at age 17, Escalante joined the punk rock band The Vandals, becoming their first permanent drummer. He would remain the sole constant member of the band throughout the rest of their career. They released their debut EP Peace Thru Vandalism in 1982 through Epitaph Records. In 1984 Escalante and the other band members appeared in the Penelope Spheeris film Suburbia and released their first album When in Rome Do as the Vandals. In 1987 they appeared in another Spheeris film, Dudes. By 1989 Escalante had moved from the drums into the bass guitar position, and fluctuations in the band’s membership had left him as the only member remaining from the original recording lineup. Excerpt: Sebastian Schneider is a German Argentine guitar player, multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and musical producer born on July 28, 1982. He is an artist which begins to rise to prominence on the new Argentine and Latin American rock scene. He has been part of several rock bands and began his solo career on 2004. His songs have a deep lyrical content as well as his particular guitar playing technique, being one of the few Argentine (and world) artists performing fingerstyle guitar playing with electric guitars on rock music and executing complex scales and musical patterns at the same time he sings. Sebastian Schneider (who took his mother’s maiden name) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from a German descendant mother and a Basque descendant father. He lived his early years on Palermo neighbourhood, where he also started his musical career. At the age of six, his grandmother Florencia gave him his first guitar, an acoustic nylon guitar. He began his musical studies on Carlos Guastavino Conservatory, where he studied classical music, tango and Argentine folklore. At eleven, despite his parents persistence, he decided to give up all his music activities. During that period he already had been part of numerous concerts as a guitar player on Conservatory events as well as private ones. One of Schneider’s reasons about ceasing his first music activities will ironically mark the future of his career later: “I wanted to learn to play the electric guitar, and they (my parents) wouldn’t let me, they told me to learn to play this one well first (the acoustic nylon guitar). As it was… More:

Biography Early life Ben Kweller was born in San Francisco, CA in 1981. In 1982, his family relocated to Emory, Texas , where his father, Howard Kweller, became the town’s first doctor. In 1986, the Kwellers moved to a much larger city, Greenville, TX . Kweller was exposed to music at a very early age. Howard taught Ben how to play the drums when he was seven years old. For the next year, the father and son pair would play together almost every night after Howard got home from work. With Howard singing and playing guitar and Ben keeping the beat, the duo would play songs by The Beatles , The Hollies , Jimi Hendrix , and other artists of the 1960s. Howard is also a longtime friend of Nils Lofgren , a neighbor with whom he went to high school. Kweller has mentioned in interviews that meeting Lofgren greatly helped his exposure to music. When Kweller turned eight, someone showed him how to play “Heart and Soul” on the piano and the youngster immediately began to create his own songs using the same chords. He still uses the same technique to write his songs today. By the time he was nine he had a dozen original compositions under his belt and entered a songwriting contest sponsored by Billboard magazine magazine . Kweller won an honorable mention. Excerpt: ) Emma Anzai is the bassist and only female member of Australian rock band Sick Puppies. She was around 16 when she developed a strong passion for rock music. At the time, she was living in Japan; she was the only foreign child in her school and had a very difficult time making friends and adapting to a new culture and lifestyle. She discovered Silverchair and Green Day first and while listening to Frogstomp and Dookie, she gained a new obsession. Along with Silverchair and Green Day, she began listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Her cousin was a few years older than she was and he owned a guitar. With her new passion for rock, she pressed him to teach her how to read tablature and how to play basic guitar. Once she learned the basics, she asked her parents for a guitar to call her own, but funds were tight so she continued to memorize her growing CD collection and pretend to play guitar on the TV remote. Her wish came true when her uncle surprised her for her birthday with a guitar combo set. She received a guitar, small combo amp, tuner and an instructional video. She dedicated every spare minute of the next twelve months becoming familiar with her new found love. She was highly impatient and couldn’t wait to be able to play her favorite songs that she had memorized. She initially found it very difficult to get her fingers to press where she wanted them to, but eventually she learned from her mistakes. Shortly after she began to master the guitar, she moved back to Australia and back to her old school and neighborhood where she was able to re-join her friends and familiar culture. Band Hero

Although guitar heroics often take the lead in modern popular music, rock & roll has always been a group activity, and Activision’s Band Hero aims to gets the whole crew into the act. As its title proclaims, the continuation of the genre-founding Guitar Hero series sets center stage for the whole band — drummers and vocalists as well as lead and bass guitarists — and is designed to let gamers play along with a diverse selection of contemporary and classic rock and pop songs, using their favorite instruments in their own style. To keep the focus on fun, Band Hero offers “No Fail” gameplay modes for instrumentalists, and a “Sing-Along” mode for karaoke-style parties, allowing players to open up and express themselves, without worrying about keeping up with progressions or scoring points. The game’s “Party Play” mode allows players to drop in and out of a song at will, as the music keeps playing. Hardcore console rockers looking for a challenge can still find it, in the game’s more traditional modes of play. Bands can battle in “Rockfest” competitive modes such as “Elimination,” “Do or Die,” “Perfectionist,” and “Pro Face Off,” that can be played with up to four others on the same console, or as many as eight over an online connection. For veteran guitar heroes, the game is also compatible with previously available Guitar Hero content, with updates that allow players to perform any instrument part and take advantage of new Band Hero features with many of the earlier downloadable songs from the Guitar Hero: World Tour edition of the game. Also building upon the series’ World Tour release, the high-def console editions of Band Hero include a fully featured “GHTM Studio,” allowing players to remix with new samples, patterns, and playing styles. The console disc edition of Band Hero offers more than 65 popular songs. Top-selling country crossover star Taylor Swift is prominently featured in the game, with the inclusion of three songs from her first…

Excerpt: Saul Hudson (born 23 July 1965), better known by his stage name Slash, is a British-American musician. Best-known as the former lead guitarist of the hard rock band Guns N’ Roses, with whom he performed and recorded between 1985 and 1996, he later formed the eponymous Slash’s Snakepit and co-founded Velvet Revolver with his former bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. His debut solo album, Slash, was released in April 2010. Slash has received critical recognition as a guitarist. In August 2009, Time Magazine ranked him #2 on its list of the “10 Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time”. He was also ranked #21 on Gigwise’s list of the “50 Greatest Guitarists Ever”. Slash was born and raised in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. His African-American mother, Ola Hudson, was born in Tennessee, and worked as a costume designer for David Bowie, among many other actors and musicians. His English father, Anthony Hudson, was an artist who created album covers for musicians such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. When Slash was eleven, his parents relocated the family to Los Angeles, California. His parents separated and he lived primarily with his mother. He was given the nickname “Slash” by family friend Seymour Cassel because he was “always in a hurry, zipping around from one thing to another”. As a young boy, Slash was influenced by a musical school teacher: After deciding to form a band with friend Steven Adler, Slash decided to pick up the bass guitar as Adler had declared himself lead guitarist. Slash stopped in at Fairfax Music School and told the receptionist he wanted to play the bass, and at that time met his teacher Robert Wolin. Wolin told him that in order to learn he would need a bass of his own. Slash went home and asked his grand… More:

Excerpt: Richard Hugh “Ritchie” Blackmore (born 14 April 1945 in Weston-super-Mare) is an English guitarist, who was a founding member of hard rock bands Deep Purple and Rainbow. Blackmore left Deep Purple first in 1975 and for a second time in 1993 due to a growing rift between Blackmore and other members in spite of renewed commercial success. His current band is the Renaissance-influenced Blackmore’s Night. Blackmore was born at Allandale Nursing Home, Weston-super-Mare, England, but moved to Heston, Middlesex at the age of two. He was 11 when he got his first guitar. His father bought it for him on certain conditions: “He said if I was going to play this thing, he was either going to have someone teach it to me properly, or he was going to smash me across the head with it. So I actually took the lessons for a year classical lessons – and it got me on to the right footing, using all the fingers and the right strokes of the plectrum and the nonsense that goes with it.” Whilst at school he did well at sports including the Javelin. Blackmore left school at age 15 and started work as an apprentice radio mechanic at nearby Heathrow Airport. He was given guitar lessons by Big Jim Sullivan. He was influenced in his youth by early rockers like Hank Marvin. His playing improved and in the early 1960s he started out as a session player for Joe Meek’s music productions and performed in several bands. He was a member of the instrumental combo, The Outlaws, and backed Heinz (playing on his top ten hit “Just Like Eddie”), Screaming Lord Sutch, Glenda Collins and Boz among others. Excerpt: John Popper (born March 29, 1967) is an American musician and songwriter. He is most famous for his role as frontman of rock band Blues Traveler performing harmonica, guitar and vocals. He is widely considered a harmonica virtuoso, and is listed by harmonica manufacturer Hohner as a “Featured Artist”, an accolade reserved for only the best and most successful harmonica players. John Popper was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His father was a Hungarian immigrant who escaped Budapest in the 1950s. Through him, Popper is related to David Popper, a nineteenth-century European cellist. Popper was raised in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. He attended Davenport Ridge School, Stamford Catholic High School (now Trinity Catholic High School) and Princeton High School (New Jersey). He took lessons on the piano, the cello, and the guitar, but none of those instruments appealed to him and he hated being forced to practice. He originally wanted to become a comedian, finding he could use humor to make friends and avoid bullies, but when he and a friend performed a routine as The Blues Brothers, he found that he enjoyed musical performance. From there, he took up the harmonica. Popper played trumpet in the Princeton High School Studio Jazz Band, and convinced the teacher to let him play harmonica instead, after an in-class solo on the song “She Blinded Me With Science”. He formed several garage bands with friends in Princeton, New Jersey, one of which evolved into Blues Traveler in 1987. After graduating from high school, the group’s members all moved to New York City, where Popper enrolled in The New School for Social Research. Popper att…More:

Excerpt: Blues-rock is a hybrid musical genre combining bluesy improvisations over the 12-bar blues and extended boogie jams with rock and roll styles. The core of the blues rock sound is created by the electric guitar, bass guitar and drum kit, with the electric guitar usually amplified through a tube guitar amplifier, giving it an overdriven character. The style began to develop in the mid-1960s in England and the United States, as what Piero Scaruffi called, a “genre of rhythm’n'blues played by white European musicians”. UK Bands such as The Who, The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, The Animals, Fleetwood Mac, Cream and The Rolling Stones experimented with music from the older American bluesmen like Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King. While the early blues-rock bands “attempted to play long, involved improvisations which were commonplace on jazz records”, by the 1970s, blues rock got heavier and more riff-based. By the “early ’70s, the lines between blues-rock and hard rock were barely visible”, as bands began recording rock-style albums. In the 1980s and 1990s, blues-rock acts returned to their bluesy roots, and some of these, such as the “Fabulous Thunderbirds and Stevie Ray Vaughan, flirted with rock stardom.” Blues-rock can be characterized by bluesy improvisation, the 12-bar blues, extended boogie jams typically focused on the electric guitar player, and often a heavier, riff-oriented sound and feel to the songs than might be found in traditional Chicago-style blues. Blues rock bands “borrow the idea of an instrumental combo and loud amplification from rock

Excerpt: Barry Goudreau (November 29, 1951) is a musician, best known as one of the original guitarists for the rock band Boston. Goudreau had developed a musical interest at an early age and got his first guitar, an acoustic which he borrowed from a friend, at age 11. He began taking lessons and by age 13, joined his first band, the “Tornadoes”. At age 15, he joined another band with future Boston drummer Sib Hashian. They would often play at night clubs, sometimes seven times a week. Later, he met up with Brad Delp and Fran Sheehan, both future members of Boston. He auditioned for Delp’s band, but didn’t make the cut as he explains here: It was around this time that I met Fran Sheehan and Brad Delp. Fran’s house was the place musicians went to and jam. We had some great times there, refining our chops until the wee hours. I’m sure the neighbors didn’t appreciate it as much as we did. I met Brad when I auditioned for his band. The guitar player had decided to leave and brought me there as his replacement. Brad sang Led Zeppelin’s Communication Breakdown. I had never heard anybody sing like that before, I will never forget it. Unfortunately, I did not get the gig. When he went to college at Boston University, he sought to get a degree in Geology. He tried to put music aside to focus on school, but he soon met up with Tom Scholz who was right across the river at MIT. The group evolved from Goudreau’s college band “Mother’s Milk” which also included Tom Scholz and Brad Delp. Goudreau worked with Scholz and Delp as early as 1969 on an initial set of demo tapes, where he performed all of the rhythm and lead guitar work. These early attempts to attract record label interest did not succeed. Eventually we put together a demo tape, and brought it to New Yor… More:

Excerpt: Heitor Villa-Lobos (March 5, 1887 November 17, 1959) was a Brazilian composer, described as “the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music”. Villa-Lobos has become the best-known and most significant Latin American composer to date. He wrote numerous orchestral, chamber, instrumental and vocal works. His music was influenced by both Brazilian folk music and by stylistic elements from the European classical tradition, as exemplified by his Bachianas Brasileiras (“Brazilian Bach-pieces”). Heitor Villa-Lobos was born in Rio de Janeiro. His father, Raul, was a wealthy, educated man of Spanish extraction, a librarian, an amateur astronomer and musician. In Villa-Lobos’s early childhood, Brazil underwent a period of social revolution and modernisation, finally abolishing slavery in 1888 and overthrowing the Empire of Brazil in 1889. The changes in Brazil were reflected in its musical life: previously European music had been the dominant influence, and the courses at the Conservatório de Música were grounded in traditional counterpoint and harmony. Villa-Lobos underwent very little of this formal training. After a few abortive harmony lessons, he learnt music by illicit observation from the top of the stairs of the regular musical evenings at his house arranged by his father. He learned to play the cello, the guitar and the clarinet. When his father died suddenly in 1899 he earned a living for his family by playing in cinema and theatre orchestras in Rio. Around 1905 Villa-Lobos started explorations of Brazil’s “dark interior”, absorbing the native Brazilian musical culture. Serious doubt has been cast on some of Villa-Lobos’s tales of the decade or so he spent on these expeditions, and about his capture and near es… More:

Excerpt: David Michael Gordon Graham, known as Davey Graham (originally Davy Graham), (26 November 194015 December 2008), was a British guitarist and one of the most influential figures in the 1960s British folk revival. He inspired many famous practitioners of the fingerstyle acoustic guitar such as Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Martin Carthy, John Martyn, Paul Simon and Jimmy Page, who based his solo “White Summer” on Graham’s “She moved thru’ the Bizarre/Blue Raga” and “Mustapha”. Graham is probably best-known for his acoustic instrumental, “Anji” and for his pioneering use of DADGAD tuning, later widely adopted by acoustic guitarists. It was not in Graham’s nature to pursue fame and fortune and he retired to relative obscurity for many years, when he engaged in charity work and teaching as well as protracted periods of drug use, before beginning to tour again in the years before his death. His childlike, almost obsessive, enthusiasm for music never left him, however, and he would gladly give a free private concert to any chance acquaintance. Graham was born in Hinckley, Leicestershire, England, to a Guyanese mother and a Scottish father. Although he never had any music theory lessons he learnt to play the piano and harmonica as a child and then took up the classical guitar at the age of 12. As a teenager he was strongly influenced by the folk guitar player Steve Benbow, who had travelled widely with the army and played a guitar style influenced by Moroccan music. At the age of 19 Graham wrote what is probably his most famous composition, the acoustic guitar solo “Angie” (sometimes spelled “Anji”: see below). His biographer Colin Harper credits Graham with single-handledly inventing the concept of the folk guitar instrumental (while acknowledging th… More:

Kay had a twin brother David, but he died a few weeks after birth. Kay has said that he still has a strong emotional connection with his brother. He was brought up by his Jewish mother Karen Kay, a cabaret singer, comedienne and impressionist who performed around the world, and stepfather James Royal. He did not meet his biological father, a man of Portuguese origin called Luís Silveira, until 2001. He was educated firstly at the independent Holmwood House School in Colchester, and then at the independent Oakham School in Rutland where he was caught smoking marijuana and expelled. He spent six months in Thailand at the age of thirteen with his stepfather. Upon returning home, he decided to change his life and began recording demos using his drum machine and some free studio time, and writing lyrics (he was taught how to play a real drum set by Jan van Mesdag). During this time he coined the name Jamiroquai for his potential new band, based upon the name of a Native American and Upstate New York tribe, the Iroquois, and “jam” from the word jamming, and also the distinctive Buffalo Man logo. His demos were soon spotted by the UK music label Acid Jazz with whom Kay signed a recording contract. Kay formed Jamiroquai with members Toby Smith (keyboards), Stuart Zender (bass), Nick Van Gelder (drums) and Wallis Buchanan (didgeridoo), together with guest appearances by Gavin Dodds (guitar), Maurizio Ravelico (percussion) and Johnny Thirkell (horns) amongst others, both on the band’s debut album and on their first tour. The LGMB is dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Skule spirit along with Ye Olde Mighty Skule Cannon and the Brute Force Committee (BFC). The LGMB is notable for its open membership policy and sometimes audacious appearances at events. The Lady Godiva Memorial Bnad is primarily a spirit group and secondly a musical group. The bnad is often introduced, incorrectly, as the Lady Godiva Marching Band, despite the fact that the bnad never marches. A more correct term would be meandering band. The use of the term bnad is a reference to the inability (or unwillingness) of engineers to spell correctly (see Skule). The LGMB participating in the 2007 Toronto Santa Claus parade. The LGMB advertises that any student in the University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering is a member of the Bnad by default. However, a more practical definition of a bnad member is anyone who has attended a bnad event. No musical talent is required to play with the LGMB, which is perhaps the greatest contributing factor to the group’s unique performance. During an event, bnad members play an instrument of their choice including traditional instruments such as bass drum, snare drum, trumpet, trombone, baritone, sousaphone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and cymbals, as well as non traditional instruments including electric guitar (with portable amplifier), electric keyboard, slide whistle, kazoo, washboard, bedpan, maraca, and fire bell. He is the founding member of Roxie 77 and probably most well known for his guitar work with Alice Cooper, Slash, Casablanca, Dad’s Porno Mag plus many more. Along with his writing, recording, and touring schedule, he currently hosts ‘The Big Rock Show with Ryan Roxie’. Roxie was born in Sacramento, California and grew up in the East Bay in a small town called Pleasanton. Ryans father, Polish, used to play trumpet and his mother was a drummer in her high school marching band. Around age five Roxie picked up the guitar but was more interested in his very first instrument, the drums. It wasnt until he was around eleven or twelve that he started taking guitar seriously. Roxie often sites Keith Partridge as an early influence. All of Roxie’s heroes were in magazines like Circus and Kerrang and it seemed like they had the easiest and best jobs. Roxie’s first electric guitar came as a Christmas present one year, a cream-colored Stratocaster exactly like Jimi Hendrix. Roxie recalls sneaking out to the room with the tree and opening the case and checking it out at four in the morning. Maybe NOT so coincidentally Roxie’s first band was to be called “The Stratocasters” (Three Guitarists only, no bass or drums!) …..After the Strat, Roxie acquired his first Gibson Les Paul, and to this day Roxie still considers the Gold Top his “first girlfriend”. He went on to form a band (with drums) called Star Fire with friends Matt Clarke and Mike Pavlick.
